Ride Description:

Friday evening I had not heard from anyone and I had not reached out because I still was not sure what to do. The weather looked questionable after several days of rain and I am, I hope, at the tail end of this illness. Saturday morning I got an email from Peter that a few were going to do a 47 mile from Sosebee Bike Park so I started getting my gear together.

There were eight of us that rolled out from SBP at 10. Not long after starting I got a warning on my Garmin that the PowerTap G3 battery was low and the next thing data dropped to zero. I switched off the power meter to collect the rest of the ride with the GPS. During those first few miles I continually had a small urge to cough, but the legs were feeling okay. Fortunately the group kept a casual pace, but even some of the small sharp rolling hills starting taking more out of me.

The route was a bit unusual and had a lot of turns. Several times we had to catch the lead riders to bring them back on course or we all turned on the wrong roads at other times. I am not sure why, but at mile 30 the route had come back close to the bike park and I heard several say, "I've had enough." Not sure if it was the winds gusts or what. I was actually thinking about turning off anyway. I also had about enough for the day so the news was pleasing to me. The route and the damp cool sharp wind gusts took quite a bit out me.
